Types of Crutches

According to the type of support, crutches can be axillary and with support under the elbow [2] .

Axillary crutches

Design
Two wooden or aluminum planks that are connected down to one rack. The rack is equipped with a transverse axillary bar (top), a handle for the brush (in the middle) and a rubber tip (bottom).

Adjustments
The telescopic method adjusts the height of the rack. For this, various clamps, screws and other devices are used. The handle height is also adjustable.

Intended use
Injuries of the lower extremities in cases where it is difficult for the patient to maintain his own weight due to the following reasons: old age, weakened leg muscles, fullness. [3]

Dimensions
Since crutches have a wide range of adjustments, there is no clear gradation in size. However, there are:

  • adult axillary crutches
  • armpits for children
  • axillary crutches for custom equipment

Crutches under the elbow (Canadian)

Design
Aluminum stand equipped with a handle and a plastic sleeve (stop-clamp). The top of the rack is tilted at an angle of about 30 degrees. The bottom of the rack is equipped with a rubber tip.

Adjustments
The telescopic method adjusts the height of the rack. Some models also adjust the distance from the handle to the cuff.

Intended use

  • late rehabilitation period after trauma of the lower extremities in those cases when the patient can partially or fully maintain his own weight.
  • persistent disorders of the musculoskeletal system (with prolonged use of crutches). [four]
