Member of the Free Democratic Party of Switzerland. Member of the Federal Council of Switzerland, head of the military department in 1989 - 1995 , finance department in 1996 - 2003 . President of Switzerland in 1995 and 2002 . During his second term as president, a disaster happened over Lake Constance . Filliger refused to attend a funeral ceremony in Ufa due to fears for his safety expressed by Russian diplomats. From 2009 to 2012, he served as chairman of the board of directors of the Swiss bank UBS , and currently is a member of the board of directors of Nestlé and Swiss Re .
