Someday (Mariah Carey's song)

“Someday” was one of five songs recorded on a demo tape that Brenda C. Starr handed to executive director Tommy Mottole, who later contracted with Mariah. Sony's record company made changes to the demo because the melody of the song seemed too rough because of the bugle , which was replaced by the melody of an electric guitar, and also reduced the end of the song to 8 seconds. Mariah and Ben Margulis were forced to accept the changes that were made by the management of the company, because neither the singer nor the musician was allowed to participate in the co-production of the song. Mariah and Ben were reportedly unhappy with the final version of Someday because it was too "polished."

The song "Someday" continued Mariah's # 1 hit series on the US charts, becoming the third consecutive leader on the Billboard Hot 100 chart . The single took the first place in the eighth week of staying on the Hot 100 chart and stayed there for two weeks from March 3 to March 16, 1991 . The single shifted from the first place the song “ All the Man That I Need ” by singer Whitney Houston , and was removed by singer Timmy T with the song “ One More Try ”. “Someday” spent fifteen weeks in the top 40 songs on the Hot 100 chart and ranked 13th on the 1991 general list of singles, being one of the biggest hits of the year. The Recording Industry Association of America has certified the single as a gold disc , with total sales of over 500,000 copies.

In other countries, the song was modestly successful, like Love Takes Time , the previous single from Mariah Carey , except Canada , where the single Someday took the first line of the charts . In the UK, the song entered the top 40 singles of the country (as well as “ Love Takes Time ”), but success did not repeat in Australia . Both songs, “Someday” and the subsequent single “ I Don't Wanna Cry ”, were largely unknown outside the United States for most of 1991 , until Mariah released her second studio album , “ Emotions ”.

The video clip , directed by Larry Jordan , was shot at the Bayonne High School in New Jersey . A group of hip hop dancers repeatedly appears throughout the video, and as a result, Mariah joins them. The main version of Someday is based on the New 7 "jackswing remix , but there is a longer video for the Someday (New 12" jackswing) remix, which was replaced by a 1992 concert with MTV Unplugged . Later this concert performance was included in the DVD / VHS collection of Mariah’s music videos - “ # 1's ” of 1999 , because the singer was ashamed of her video for the song “Someday”.

A large number of remixes were created by DJ Shep Pettibone , in particular the two most famous remixes of “Someday”: New 7 "Jackswing and a longer version of New 12" Jackswing .
