Born into the family of former Broadway actor Christopher Cornelius Kalkin (born December 6, 1944) and Patricia Brentup. Rory is the youngest of seven children in the family. The middle name Hugh Keith gave him in honor of his maternal grandfather Hubert.
He got to the cinema mainly due to the fact that his elder brother Macaulay was at the peak of actor's glory and Keith Culkin began to make attempts to push other children into the cinema. At first, Rory starred in films with his brothers, playing their on-screen younger brothers or children's incarnation of their characters.
Rory loves to draw. Plays the drum. In 2018, he married a cinematographer Sarah Scrivner.
