History
AOF was founded in April 1969 . In June 1969, she became a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The first leader of the AOF was its Secretary General, Zeid Heydar. Other leaders were Munif al-Razzaz, Abd al-Wahhab al-Kayali and Abd al-Rahim Ahmad. The current Secretary-General, Rakad Salem (Abu Mahmoud), is being detained in an Israeli prison. AOF has a seat on the PLO Executive Committee, represented by Mahmoud Ismail.
Ideology and attitude towards the PLO
AOF has always followed the policies of the Iraqi government on many issues. In accordance with the pan-Arab ideology of the Ba'ath Party , the AOF was initially opposed to the “depalestinization” of the conflict, preferring to view the conflict from the point of view of the war of the entire Arab world with Israel , considered by him as part of Iraq’s natural policy. In the 1970s, the AOF became a member of the Radical Front, rejecting the growing moderation of the PLO. The AOF is later against the Oslo Accords , as well as the Iraqi government. This led to a split in the organization.
Current Situation
AOF supports people in refugee camps in Lebanon and has a small presence in the occupied Palestinian territories. Its headquarters are located in the city of Ramallah in the central part of the West Bank .
The AOF gained some importance during the al-Aqsa intifada as a distributor of financial support from the Iraqi government for the families of the deceased, with additional subsidies for the families of suicide bombers.
AOF has its monthly newspaper, South al-Jamahir (in Arabic ), edited by Rakad Salem.
Samir Sanunu is the representative of the AOF in Lebanon .
Military component
The AOF has not been involved in armed attacks on Israel , at least since the early 1990s , and it is believed that it does not have any significant military potential. Therefore, the AOF is not considered a foreign terrorist organization in the United States , nor is it included in the UN and EU terrorist lists.
