The Teriological Society of Russia at the Russian Academy of Sciences is a voluntary non-governmental organization that brings together scientists working on the study of mammals, promotes the dissemination of knowledge about mammals and the development of theriological studies of important scientific and economic importance. Content
History
Theriological Society was created in January 1973 in Moscow at the Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov at the initiative of Moscow theriologists, headed by academician V.E. Sokolov . This happened at the constituent congress of the All-Union Theriological Society at the USSR Academy of Sciences. Among its founders were prominent theriological scientists: academician S. S. Schwartz , academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR I. G. Pidoplichko , corresponding member, Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR A. A. Sludsky , doctors of biological sciences N. N. Vorontsov , V. G. Geptner , A. G. Bannikov , N. I. Kalabukhov , A. N. Korneev, B. A. Kuznetsov , A. P. Kuzyakin , H. I. Ling, B. S. Matveev , A. A. Nasimovich , N.V. Nekipelov , G.A. Novikov , O.N. Nurgeldyev , T. B. Sablina , K.K. Flerov , A.N. Formozov , I. Ya. Polyakov , N.P. Naumov , V. V. Kucheruk , I.A. Shilov . Academician V.E. Sokolov was elected President of the Society. Scientific Secretary - Doctor of Biological Sciences V.N. Orlov . Since 1999, the president of the society was academician V.N. Bolshakov . In 2016, he was awarded the title of Honorary President of the Society, and Academician of the RAS V.V. Rozhnov was approved as the new President of the Theriological Society.
Society sections
There are nine sections in the society in the main areas of theriological research, commissions on special issues, on individual taxa, on groups of species, on individual types contributed to the organization of thematic meetings, congresses, and the publication of theriological collections.
Publications of the
Since 1976, the company annually produced a series of issues of theriology at the publishing house Nauka. A total of 14 volumes of the series were published (for 2008).
Society congresses
The congresses of the Theriological Society were held every four years in Moscow.
- I Congress of the WTO - January 1973
- II Congress of the WTO - January 1978, 600 participants, collections of abstracts and plenary reports published.
- III WTO Congress - January 1982, 800 participants, two volumes of abstracts published. By this time, the society totaled more than 2000 members, 12 Republican and 8 regional branches.
- IV Congress - January 1986, 800 participants, three volumes of abstracts were published. As part of the congress, four All-Union meetings were held: on predatory mammals, marmots, saigas and gray rats. In accordance with the Resolution of the III All-Union Conference on Groundhogs, held as part of the IV Congress of the All-Union Theriological Society, a Commission for the study of groundhogs was created.
- V Congress - February 1990 (the last in the framework of the WTO Charter), 700 participants, three volumes of abstracts were published.
- In February 1992, at an extraordinary congress, the All-Union Theriological Society was reorganized into the Theriological Society at the Russian Academy of Sciences. The company includes ten regional branches with their branches.
- The VI Congress of the Theriological Society was held in 1999 in Moscow at the Institute of Ecology and Evolution named after A. N. Severtsova RAS. It was attended by 250 people. The congress elected Academician Vladimir Nikolayevich Bolshakov as President of the Society. On the basis of the decision of the Sixth Congress of the Theriological Society, a bats working group was created.
- The 7th congress of the Theriological Society was held on February 6-7, 2003 in Moscow.
- The VIII Congress of the Theriological Society was held January 31 - February 2, 2007 in Moscow.
- The 9th congress of the Theriological Society was held on February 1–4, 2011 in Moscow (at the biological faculty of Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov).
- The 10th congress of the Theriological Society was held on February 1-5, 2016 in Moscow (at the Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University named after MV Lomonosov). 522 participants registered on the conference site, 393 theriologists from Russia and 13 more countries were personally present. By the beginning of the meeting and the Congress, materials were published, including 446 abstracts.
