Castle history

D'Amfrevilli

In 1100 , King Henry I bestowed Robert d'Amfreville a barony of Prado. In 1145 he was succeeded by his son Odel, who built in 1161 - 1182 . on the site of the ancient fortifications stone castle. Odenel swore allegiance to the English King Henry II , with the result that William the Lion twice besieged Prado in 1173 and 1174 . - both times unsuccessfully. In the end, Odel and his army captured the Scottish king not far from Alnica , where William was forced to sign the Falez agreement , thus recognizing Heinrich as the ruler of Scotland.

Percy, Earls of Northumberland

In 1381 Gilbert, 3rd Baron Prado, died without leaving an heir. Rod d'Amfrevillely interrupted. Gilbert's widow married Henry Percy, Earl of Northumberland. After her death in 1398 , the castle became the property of the Percy family.

In 1405 , Henry IV besieged and conquered the Prado, who thus divided the fate of the castles of Warkworth and Alnik. The Percy family managed to return the castle only after 65 years. Over the next centuries, the Prado gradually fell into neglect; many of its parts have collapsed. In 1808 - 1818 Hugh Percy, 2nd Duke of Northumberland, partially restored the castle, restoring the outer wall and main tower.
