The borders of the district are Nevsky Prospekt in the northwest, Neva from the north and Fontanka from the east.

Places such as the Palace Square , the Winter Palace , the State Hermitage Museum , the Savior on Spilled Blood , the Field of Mars , the Summer Garden are located in the district. None of the municipalities of St. Petersburg can be compared with the municipal district of the Palace District in the number and variety of historical cultural objects located on its territory. The story of each alley and each house is unique. The peculiarity of the Palace District is also that it was he who gathered on his territory the representations of numerous religious denominations.

The border of the okrug passes from the confluence of the Fontanka River with the Neva River to Nevsky Prospekt, then along the axis of Nevsky Prospekt to Admiralteysky Prospekt, then along the axis of Admiralteysky Prospekt to Palace Passage, then along the axis of Palace Passage to the Bolshaya Neva River, then along the axis of the Bolshaya Neva River, along axis of the Neva River to the Fontanka River.

As we see, the even line of the territory of the Palace District can be considered the even side of Nevsky Prospekt, from house No. 2 to house No. 66. Therefore, it is fair to start our journey from this central highway not only of the district, but, of course, of St. Petersburg as a whole. Nevsky Prospect began its biography as the “Great Promising Road”, linking the Admiralty district and, founded in 1710, the Alexander Nevsky Monastery with the Novgorod Highway (the only road leading to the city), which ran along the highway of the modern Ligovsky Prospect. The length of Nevsky from Admiralteysky Prospekt to the Alexander Nevsky Lavra is more than four kilometers. This path was not easy, the road was often blurred. And it was decided to lay a direct route, a "prospect", from the Admiralty to the Novgorod highway along the shortest distance. So the direction of Nevsky Prospect was outlined.

Simultaneously with the start of construction, for their part, the monks of the Alexander Nevsky Monastery began to pave the road. Thus, the glade began to be pierced from two sides, planning to connect on the Novgorod road. However, it was not possible to precisely connect. As a result, there was a single turn in the area of Uprising.
