Neurexin-1 is one of the neurexins , membrane proteins found primarily in neurons. The 1.1 Mb neurexin-1 gene, NRXN1, is, along with NRXN3, one of the largest human genes; it contains 24 exons and several splice sites. Alternative splicing is supposedly capable of generating 2,208 alpha forms and 42 beta forms of protein. [one]

Pathology
NRXN1 and related protein genes may be associated with the development of mental disorders, in particular schizophrenia . [2]
In 2008, NRXN1 gene violation was observed in two unrelated patients with autism spectrum disorders , however, the father of one of the patients whose genome contained the same chromosomal abnormality did not show signs of autism , which suggests a possible interaction of NRXN1 changes with other factors. [3]
Interactions
It has been shown that neurexin-1 (NRXN1) interacts with neurolygin-1 ( NLGN1 ). [4] [5]
