Ibri

Ibri is a city, the administrative center of the province of Ed-Dahir of the Sultanate of Oman , as well as of the same name vilayet . Located 279 km west of the capital of Muscat , in the interior of the country. The population of 97,429 people ( 2003 ). Vilayet Ibri unites about 118 villages.

History and Attractions

Since ancient times, important caravan routes connecting various parts of the Arabian Peninsula passed through Ibri. The city, rural and Bedouin civilizations laid their mark on the city. At different times, numerous fortresses and forts were built in Ibri, the most important of which are:

  • Ibri Fortress - located in the city center, next to the city market, built in the XII century .
  • Es Salif Fortress is a historical fortress, built in 1711 - 1718 by Imam Sultan bin Seif El Yaarabi on Mount Shanbukh , towering above the wadi of Es Salif.
  • El Ainayn Fortress - is a fortified house, which was built by Sheikh Nasyr bin Muhammad Al-Gafiri in 1740 .
