The southern front of the air defense is an operational-strategic association of air defense forces in the armed forces of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War . It was founded on March 29, 1944 on the basis of the Eastern and Western air defense fronts . The front headquarters was stationed in Kiev .

Front Combat Mission
The troops of the Southern Air Defense Front were entrusted with air defense of the administrative-political, industrial and economic centers and regions of the south of the USSR , covering communications and supply bases of the army, as well as building up the air defense system during offensive operations of the Red Army in the south-west direction.
Fighting
The troops of the Southern Air Defense Front took an active part and played an important role in the offensive operations of the 1st , 2nd , 3rd and 4th Ukrainian fronts in the summer and autumn of 1944 .
According to the decree of the GKO on December 24, 1944, the Southern Front of the Air Defense was transformed into the South-Western Front of the Air Defense .
