Functional-semantic field - the term of functional grammar ; based on a specific semantic category, a grouping of means of different levels of the language , as well as combined language means interacting on the basis of the commonality of their semantic functions. This unit has both a plan of expression and a plan of content , that is, it is a two-sided unity; has a field structure (has a center and periphery). The core of the functional-semantic field is composed of units of the morphological and syntactic level. Word-building and lexical tools make up the periphery of the field. An example of a functional-semantic field is the field of comparability . This field is grouped around the semantic comparison category . The core of the field is the morphological category of degrees of comparison of adjectives and adverbs ( smarter, smarter ) and syntactic comparative constructions ( He is smart like Einstein ). On the periphery of the field there are lexical means ( similar, similar, similarity, analogue ) and word-formation tools ( humanoid, furious, bluish ).
