KRONES AG is a leading specialized company [2] in the design, manufacture and installation of equipment for bottling, canning and packaging, whose activities range from the supply of individual machines to projects with turnkey delivery, including finished bottling lines and canning for all types of foods, beverages and dairy products, as well as breweries and complete breweries. The company produces a complete list of plants and machines, covering all areas of the production process and the flow of materials from bottling to product packaging and integrates complete IT systems. It is also possible to complete the design of finished beverage plants. Krones AG is the only manufacturer of beverage dispensers that owns Bottle-to-Bottle-Recycling PET processing and recycling technology, enabling the recycling of bottles in the food industry. The company devotes particular attention to saving raw materials in the production of PET bottles. By creating the lightest PET bottle for non-carbonated water weighing 6.6 g, Krones won the German prize in the retail packaging category in 2008. [3]

History
The development of Krones is closely linked to the economic recovery in Germany after World War II. In 1951, Hermann Kronzeder, the father of the current chairman of the board, began manufacturing semi-automatic labeling machines of his own design in the city of Neutraubling. Due to the constant success of machines since the 1960s, production was expanded by packaging machines and bottling systems. In 1980, KRONES AG became a joint-stock company.
Over the past two decades of the 20th century, the company made a number of acquisitions, expanding the range of products:
- 1983: Anton Steinecker Maschinenfabrik (brewery production), Freising
- 1988: Zierk Maschinenbau GmbH (bottle cleaning machines), Flenzburg
- 1998: Max Kettner GmbH (packaging machines), Rosenheim
- 2000: Sander Hansen A / S (pasteurization systems), Brendby, Denmark [4]
Activity
The central office of the concern is located in Neutraubling near Regensburg . Krones has a total of 12,285 employees. Of these, 9,098 - in Germany. New machines and installations are made exclusively in German factories (Neutraubling, [Nittenau]], Flenzburg , Freising and Rosenheim ). Over 80% of turnover comes from foreign countries, in which the company is represented by 40 subsidiaries.
Subsidiaries:
- KIC Krones GmbH (high-tech adhesives for labels and carton packaging, means of production), Neutraubling
- KOSME SRL (filling and packing machines for medium-sized businesses), Roverbella , Italy
By 2011, the number of patents and templates registered by the company increased to 3150. [5]
Industrial areas
Plastics processing
The main product of this field of activity of the company is the injection molding machine for bottles with capacity from 12.800 to 80.000 bottles / hour for the production of PET bottles up to 3 liters.
Food filling and packaging systems
The main objective of the enterprise is the production of installations for filling and packaging the product for circular conveyors. The company deliberately distanced itself from the creators of the linear type conveyors, since the productivity of only circular installations reaches 60. 000 bottles or 100. 000 metal cans per hour. Inspection and control systems for containers and containers, as well as product labeling and labeling systems using hot or cold glue and self-adhesive labels complete the list of installations for the production of beverages. Krones has developed localized cleaning systems for the filling and packaging lines (Cleaning in place). Packaging machines for disposable and reusable containers, sorting machines and palletizing systems complete the range.
Production machinery
The company equips breweries with a complete list of equipment: from breweries installations and their supply systems to installations for storage and fermentation cellars. The company offers manufacturers of soft drinks installations for the production of syrups and equipment for mixing and carbonation. For the preservation of beverages, high heating systems are used, as well as pasteurizers. For both production areas, the company uses its own valve technology.
IT solutions and material delivery systems
Special warehouse management systems simplify the process of palletizing and loading material. With its own concept for the transportation of raw materials, auxiliary and production materials, Krones is able to provide a constant supply of material during the production and delivery of the product. The equipment for collecting and packing orders allows stacking multiple types of goods on one pallet. Responsibility for Krones logistics activities in the future will be transferred to Syskron Holding GmbH. [6]
Important dates since 1997
- 1997 Start of production of an injection molding machine for PET bottles.
- 2000 Delivery of the first installation for aseptic filling of sensitive soft drinks. [7]
- 2002 Implementation of the first PET recycling plant for the preparation of PET bottles and reuse as a raw material in contact with food.
- 2005 Expansion of aseptic filling technology by wet sterilization with H2O2; Krones has previously used peracetic acid sterilization; Thus, Krones is the only company offering both technologies.
- 2010 Launch of the ProShape-special method for the production of oval and asymmetric plastic containers. [eight]
- 2011 Development of LitePac-an absolutely new type of beverage packaging: the neck of a plastic bottle is supplied with a single ring with a handle for transportation, which reduces the amount of poly-packaging by 75%. [9]
