History
The order for the construction of the submarine was given on August 15, 1940 . The boat was laid down on July 15, 1941 at the Germaniaverft shipyard in Kiel under building number 654, launched on May 7, 1942 . The boat went into operation on June 20, 1942 under the command of Oberleutnant Hans-Karl Cosbadt.

Service History
The boat made 2 military campaigns. Sank 2 vessels with a total displacement of 9,535 gross tons . It was sunk on January 13, 1943 in the western part of the Mediterranean Sea, west of Algeria, in an area with coordinates as a result of ramming and deep bombing from the Canadian corvette HMCS Ville de Quebec . 45 people died, one survived.
