Biography

Vladimir Kara-Murza was born on October 24, 1959 in Moscow. In 1981, he graduated from the History Department of Moscow State University with a degree in “teacher of the history of modern times” [8] . Oleg Dobrodeev studied with him on a parallel flow [9] , with whom Kara-Murza maintained friendly relations from 1976 to 2001 [10] .

He took part in the activities of the art group " Amanita " [11] [12] [13] .

From 1982 to 1992 he was engaged in private tutoring on history [14] [15] [16] , worked as a janitor , fireman [17] [18] .

In 1992-1993 , he was a senior editor, then a correspondent for Yevgeny Kiselyov ’s Itogi weekly program at the Ostankino State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company [20] [21] (now called Channel One ). He made materials on historical topics there: on the South Kuril Islands and events in North Ossetia [22] . In 1993-1995 , he was a correspondent for the information service of the NTV television company, making stories for the programs "Today" [25] and "Itogi" [26] . From April 28, 1995 [27] to April 12, 2001, he was the author and presenter of the informational and analytical program “ Today at Midnight ” on the NTV channel [28] [29] , in 1996 he was awarded the Golden Pen Award of the Russian Journalists Union for his professional activities Of Russia ” [30] . During the conflict between the owner of the NTV television company Gusinsky and its main creditor Gazprom , Vladimir Kara-Murza came to the editorial office of the television channel on the 8th floor of the Ostankino television center on the night of April 14, 2001 , where he entered into a tough polemic with representatives of Gazprom ": Dobrodeev , Yordan and Kulistikov [34] . In the same year, he declared: “Since I am a person with a historical education, I believe that until 2008 the regime in its current form will not be able to exist” [66] .

Family

Father - Alexei Sergeyevich Kara-Murza (1914-1988), a historian and front-line journalist, in his works illuminated the Battle of Stalingrad . He was the editor-in-chief of the specialized journal “Teaching History at School” [70] .

Mother - Maya Voldemarovna Kara-Murza (virgin. Bisenieks) (born 1934), niece of Latvian diplomat Georg Bisenieks , who was accused of preparing the murder of Sergei Kirov . Due to this fact, she was considered the daughter of an enemy of the people and could not enter any institution. She met Alexey Sergeyevich in the technical school in which he taught, and became his second wife [71] .
