History

In 1950, Eleanor Roosevelt , the widow of Franklin D. Roosevelt , visited this place. She is considered the first tourist to visit the residence of Santa Claus. A hut was built here in her honor, which can be seen even now (located next to the post office).

Tourism

The main stream of tourists goes here from Great Britain , Germany , Russia , France , Ireland , China , Japan , India and many other countries. In recent years, the number of tourists from the Americas has increased significantly, but tourists from the United States in 2005 accounted for only 4.7% of the total number of visitors. This is explained by the fact that in the American tradition, Santa Claus resides at the North Pole , despite the fact that there is no land there (the North Pole is in the Arctic Ocean ). European culture does not mention the place of residence of Santa Claus.

Santa Claus Village in Lapland (inside the Arctic Circle ) is its most famous residence.

In addition, it is possible to get to Rovaniemi by regular bus flights and by rail.

You can get from Rovaniemi to Santa Claus Village on route 8, which runs between the Rovaniemi Train Station and Santa Claus Village stations. The bus ride takes about 30 minutes.
