Music magazines - periodicals containing musical notation and articles about musicians and music. Designed for musicians and artists interested in music.

History

The first Russian music magazine was the musical magazine Musical Amusements , published in Moscow in 1774 . At the end of the 18th - beginning of the 19th centuries, numerous music magazines were published in St. Petersburg and Moscow , designed for various public circles. They published piano, vocal, guitar plays, excerpts from popular operas. The first musical music magazine to be published in the provinces was Asian Music Magazine .

Until the 40s of the XIX century. Russian musical periodicals were represented by music magazines. During this period, the absence of music magazines specifically dedicated to the problems of musical art was made up for by various collections and almanacs.

In 1842 , the music journal “ Nouvellist ” began to be published in St. Petersburg , which appeared in 1844 with a literary addition, which can be considered as the first Russian music magazine itself.

In the 1950s, mixed-level magazines, Musical and Theater Bulletin , and later Music and Theater , stood out according to the level of published musical materials.

In the 60-80s of the XIX century. music magazines were published in St. Petersburg :

  • Musical season (1869–71);
  • Musical sheet (1872–73, 1876–1877);
  • Russian Musical Bulletin (1880–82, with musical notation);
  • Button accordion (1888–90, with musical notation).

Different in their orientation, they published serious articles and were special organs of the Russian musical periodical press.

In 1894–1918, the Russian Musical Newspaper was published in St. Petersburg (in 1913–1917 with the Bibliographic Leaflet attached), one of the best pre-revolutionary Russian music publications, in 1894–1917, Music and Singing , in 1896–1909 - “ Proceedings of the St. Petersburg Society of Musical Assemblies ” (from 1903 with the annex “Musical Bibliography”), in 1909-17 - “ Choral and Regency .” Since the beginning of the 20th century, music magazines have been published: in Moscow - The Musical Worker (1906-10), The Orchestra (1910-12), covering issues of work and life of orchestral musicians, The Music (1910-16), dedicated to the latest achievements European musical art; in St. Petersburg - “ Musical Contemporary ” (1915-17, with the appendix “ Chronicle of the journal Musical Contemporary ”). In the same years, Music magazines appeared in the provinces ( Tambov , Nizhny Novgorod , Odessa , Tyumen ).

The world's first music magazines devoted to a record, began to be published in Russia (Gramophone and Phonograph, Petersburg, 1902-04).

After the October Revolution of 1917 , music magazines appeared in Moscow:

  • To the new shores (1923);
  • Musical novel (1923-1924);
  • Contemporary music (1924-1929);
  • Musical education (1925-30);
  • Music and the Revolution (1926–29);
  • Music and Life (1927);
  • Proletarian musician (1929–32);
  • Amateur Music (1933–36).

In 1933 , the Soviet Music magazine, designed for professional musicians, began to be published, and in 1957 , Musical Life , intended for a wide range of music lovers and amateur music lovers (Moscow).

Modern editions

  • “The art of music. Theory and History ”- peer-reviewed electronic journal
  • “ Media Music ” - peer-reviewed electronic scientific journal on music and sound issues in electronic media, in cinema, the Internet and multimedia;
