Obol ( Belor. Obal ) is an urban settlement in the Shumilino district of the Vitebsk region of Belarus . Located on the river Obol . 23 km from Shumilino , 70 km from Vitebsk . Railway station on the line Vitebsk - Polotsk , on the highway Vitebsk - Polotsk ( P20 ). The population is 2340 people (as of January 1, 2018) [1] .

Content
History
Known from the XVI century as a village in the Polotsk province ON . As a result of the first section of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth c 1772 as part of the Russian Empire . From the beginning of the XIX century the center of the Petropavlovsk volost of Polotsk district . Oboli contributed to the growth of the construction of the Rigo-Orlovsky railway ( 1886 ). In 1894-1914 There was a wood chemical factory [2] that produced charcoal, tar , alcohol, and acetic powder. At the end of the 19th century, a water mill and a parochial school operated in Oboli. In 1929 a brick factory was founded [3] .
Since 1924 - the center of the village council of Sirotinsky (since 1961 Shumilinsky) district.
From August 1941 to June 26, 1944, Obol was occupied by German troops [3] . During the Great Patriotic War , the Komsomol underground functioned.
In the years 1962-1966 in Polotsk district . Since 1968 - urban settlement.
