Content
Biography
The father is Lithuanian, the mother is Russian, from the family of Old Believers. In 1970-1974 he studied at the Lithuanian Conservatory . A graduate of the directing faculty of GITIS (course I. Tumanova , 1978). He made his debut at the Drama Theater of the Lithuanian SSR with the play “January” based on the play by J. Radichkov. The first Moscow production - "Melody for the Peacock" by O. Zahradnik (1979) in the Theater. KS Stanislavsky .
From 1979 to 1990 - the director, from 1994 to 1999 - the main director of the National Drama Theater of Lithuania . In 1990, he founded and headed the Vilnius Maly Drama Theater.
In 2007, he accepted the offer of the Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography to become the artistic director of the Moscow Vakhtangov Theater .
Since 2012, the international festival of Rimas Tuminas “Vasara” (“Summer”) has been held in Druskininkai .
Tuminas is a master of metaphors and ironic riddles. In his performances "lives an extraordinary sincerity, brilliant irony, strictly verified theatrical grotesque, high spirits and acting courage" [3] .
