Presentation for identification , identification - a procedural action (Articles 193, 289 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation ), consisting in presenting, during a preliminary investigation or judicial investigation, to a witness , victim , suspect or accused (defendant) in the established criminal procedure, any object (or its display) to establish the identity or difference with the previously perceived object in connection with the event being investigated.
The object of identification can be both an object and a person. This person (object) is presented for identification along with other persons (objects), if possible externally similar to him, the total number of which should be at least three, with the exception of identification of the corpse. Identification of objects and a corpse is carried out with the participation of witnesses. If it is impossible to present a person (object), identification can be carried out according to his photograph, presented simultaneously with photographs of other persons (objects) that are outwardly similar to the recognizable. The number of photographs must be at least three.
Before presenting the person (object) for identification to the identifier, he must first be questioned about the circumstances in which he had to observe the corresponding person (object), as well as regarding those signs and features by which the identification can be made.
