Markus Meckel ( German: Markus Meckel ; born August 18, 1952 , Müncheberg , Brandenburg ) - German theologian and politician, social democrat, member of the Bundestag . From April 12 to August 20, 1990 he was Minister of Foreign Affairs of the GDR .

Party
In the 1970s, Meckel was an opposition activist in the GDR. In 1989, he was one of the founders of the Social Democratic Party in the GDR and was elected second speaker. From February 23, 1990 until the unification congress with the SPD on September 27, 1990, he was deputy chairman of the party. After the resignation of the chairman, Ibrahim Boehme , from March 26 to June 10, 1990 he was the acting party chairman.

From March to October 1990, Meckel was a member of the People’s Chamber of the GDR . From October 3, 1990 to the present, is a member of the Bundestag . In the Bundestag, he is engaged in European politics. The main field of his activity concerns relations with Poland. In the 2005 Bundestag elections, he gathered 39.6% of the vote in his constituency.
