Origin of title
It was named after the Dorogomilovsky outpost in the Kamer-Kollezhsky Val outpost.
History
Historically, the Dorogomilovo district was the Moscow gateway to the west, the Smolensk road ran from here.
In 1606, the first wooden triumphal gates in Russia were erected at this place for the solemn meeting of Marina Mniszek [1] .
In June 1635, on this Moscow outskirts, the Russian nobility met the remains of Tsar Vasily Shuisky, who died in Polish captivity [1] .
When in 1742 the construction of the Kamer-Kollezhsky Val was going on around Moscow, 18 outposts were created on it, which received the name of the surrounding areas or roads on which they stood. The outpost built on the Smolensk road was located on the territory of the village Dorogomilovo and was therefore called Dorogomilovskaya. From the end of the 18th century, the Kamer-Kollezhsky Val became actual, and from 1806 it became the official border of Moscow .
After half a century more, the outposts were liquidated, the earthen ramp was gradually dug up, and streets appeared in its place (in particular, Mozhaysky Val street ; unnamed passage in the courtyard d.6 along Kutuzovsky Avenue, the former Dorogomilovsky Val [2] - the former ramparts in the immediate vicinity of Dorogomilovskaya Zastava).
Later, Dorogomilovskaya Zastava acquired the appearance of a city square at the intersection of two large roads, which retained the word “outpost” in its name.
In 1963, the square was reconstructed according to the design of architects L. Golubovsky, A. Korabelnikov, A. Kuzmin, S. Kurchanov, Y. Semenov. It was built up with three nine-storey houses that make up a single volume. A large department store adjoins the central building, the second floor of which protrudes over the roadway and covers the pavement to its full width, forming a covered gallery on the ground floor level [3] (we are talking about houses No. 15 and 17 along Kutuzovsky Avenue and No. 16 along the Big Dorogomilovskaya street . The central building is the house number 17 on Kutuzovsky Avenue.)
In 2017, an unnamed passage between Kutuzovsky Prospekt and Bolshoi Dorogomilovskaya Street near the obelisk “ Moscow - City of Hero ” received the name of Andrei Karlov Street , in memory of A.G. Karlov who was killed in 2016 in Turkey after Russia.
