Galytsky district ( Ukrainian. Galitsky district ) - one of the districts of the Lviv City Council , which covers the territory of the central part of the city of Lviv: Sredmistye , Citadel , Sofiyivka (in part), Snopkov (in part). The permanent population on August 1, 2010 is 58,367 people [1] .

The Leninsky district was formed on April 12, 1951, when the Stalin, Krasnoarmeisky and Zheleznodorozhny districts were unbundled [2] [3] . In the late 1980s, the Leninsky district was renamed the Galitsky district. As a result of the administrative reform of 2002, Galician and Sykhiv districts were separated from the Galitsky district .

According to the geographer Roman Lozinsky, as a result of the reform, “the increased share of the Russian and the whole Russian-speaking population is observed in the central part of Lviv” [4] .

Main streets: Liberty Avenue , Shevchenko , Doroshenko , Copernicus , Market Square . In the Galician region concentrated many administrative and cultural institutions, architectural monuments. In its area, the Galitsky district is the smallest among all districts of Lviv and does not border on rural areas.

On the territory of the district there are parks named after Ivan Franko ( Kosciusko Park ) and Na Valy .
