Midplane

Su-7 and MiG-21 are typical examples of mid -planes .

Middle wing - a scheme for attaching a wing to the fuselage of an airplane ( monoplane ) when the wing passes through the middle part of its section. This scheme is mainly used on light and military aircraft.

Schema Benefits

  • The location of the wing in the middle of the fuselage makes it easier to pair the wing and the fuselage.
  • The intermediate between the high and low position of the wing allows you to remove the landing gear in the wing.
  • Arms suspended under the wing are not at risk of impact on the runway .
  • The effective scattering area is reduced when viewed from the side (the consideration that determined the aerodynamic design of the Gripen fighter).

Circuit Shortcomings

  • The power beam , combining both wing planes, must pass through the fuselage, imposing restrictions on the layout of the internal units in this place.
  • Powerful ring frames can be used as an alternative to the power beam, however, they make the glider heavier and make it difficult to carry out repair work and modifications.

Due to these shortcomings, the mid-plan scheme is rarely used on passenger and cargo aircraft, but is popular on fighters and attack aircraft .
