Biography

Pal Lukács ( Hungarian. Pál Lukács ) was born in Budapest in 1895 . His acting debut took place in 1916 on one of the theatrical scenes of Budapest , and a year later he first appeared on the big screen. In 1927 , after a successful theater and film career in his native Hungary , as well as in Germany and Austria , where he collaborated with renowned Max Reinhard , Pal Lukács moved to Hollywood . There he successfully continued his acting career under the name of Paul Lucas, appearing in the 1930s in such popular films as Dodsworth ( 1936 ) and “The Lady Disappears ” ( 1938 ). In 1933, the actor took American citizenship.

In the 1940s , Paul Lucas reached great heights in Hollywood , thanks to roles in the films “ Casablanca ” ( 1942 ), “ For Whom the Bell Tolls ” ( 1943 ) and “Watch on the Rhine” ( 1943 ), for which he won the Oscar »For the best male role. Since the late 1940s , Paul Lucas has moved to television, continuing only occasionally to appear on the big screen. One of his last major films was Professor Pierre Arano in a large-scale film adaptation of Jules Verne ’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Paul Lucas died on August 16, 1971 in Tangier , Morocco , at the age of 76, as reported during his search for a new place of residence, where he could meet his old age. His contribution to the cinema is marked by a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
