Biography

Born November 20, 1744, the nephew of the Kiev governor, Lieutenant General Y. V. Yelchaninov .

Being a lieutenant colonel of the Riga Carabinieri Regiment , he participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1768-1774 with honors and was awarded the Order of St. July 27, 1770 . George 4th degree (No. 16 according to the lists of Sudravsky and Grigorovich - Stepanov)

For the brave deed he did on July 7, 770, when taking the enemy’s battery, where he arrived and drove the enemy with a squadron.

Produced on August 2, 1770 as a colonel , on October 20 of the same year, Yelchaninov died during the siege of Brailov [1] .

Yelchaninov was close to V.I. Lukin , the famous playwright of the 18th century and was himself no stranger to literary activity. He wrote a comedy in one act: “The Punished Rotary Question”, played and published in St. Petersburg in 1767 (reprinted in the publication of Efremov : “Compositions and Translations of V. I. Lukin and B. E. Elchaninov”, St. Petersburg, 1868) ; translated from French “Letters from Mr. Fanny Burtled to my lord Karl Alfred de Kaitombridge” (St. Petersburg, 1765). His other comedy: “Awarded Virtue”, written in imitation of “The Scotch” by Voltaire, was not preserved, but it was a success among Yelchaninov's contemporaries, although it was placed below the “Punished Helicopter Question”.

Notes

  1. ↑ The Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary and a number of other reference publications erroneously say that Yelchaninov died near Brailov in 1769.
