Johann Nepomuk Schaller ( him. Johann Nepomuk Schaller ; March 30, 1777 , Vienna - February 16, 1842 , Vienna ) - Austrian sculptor .

Biography
From 1789, he studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Hubert Maurer , then from 1792 in the sculpture class with Antonio Grassi and Franz Anton von Zauner . Simultaneously, from 1791, he practiced in a porcelain factory and later on participated in the development of models for the production of porcelain .
In 1812–1813 lived and worked in Rome , closely interacted with the Nazarene artists. Then he worked in Munich on the order of Ludwig I of Bavaria , performing statues for the famous Valhalla memorial.
Since 1823, again in the capital of Austria , professor of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts; among students Schaller, in particular, Josef Gasser .
In 1907, a street in the Meidling district of Vienna was named after Schaller.
Family
- The elder brother of the sculptor Anton Ferdinand Schaller (1773–1844) was a historical painter .
- Schaller's nephew Ludwig (1804-1865) also became a sculptor. At the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, the following evaluation of his work was given on the pages of the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopaedic Dictionary : the liveliness and resourcefulness of his fantasies; in most cases they are as well conceived as they were executed ” [1] .
