Lastoveень , also a gusset, a swallow, a quack ( Latin Vincetóxicum ) - a genus of plants of the Kutrovy family ( Apocynaceae ); previously, the genus was included in the family Gusset ( Asclepiadaceae ).

There are about 30 species in temperate regions of Eurasia , over 100 species in America and several in Africa . There are more than 25 species in the former USSR , mainly in the south of the European part and in the Caucasus .

It grows on steppe and rocky slopes, shrubs, edges, forests.

Botanical Description

Perennial grasses or low shrubs.

The rhizome is thin, creeping.

The stalk is single, straight, bare in the lower part, small-haired in the upper, curly at the top.

The leaves are opposite or alternate, 5―14 cm long, 3.5―7 cm wide, broadly oval or oval-lanceolate.

Inflorescences are umbellate or racemose , loose, low-flowered, with 1-6 flowers , in the axils of the upper leaves, on thin peduncles. The flowers are small, five-membered, about 1.6 cm in diameter, white, yellowish-white, greenish in color, the Black Fur ( Vincetoxicum nigrum ) is almost black.

Fruit of 2 pubescent leaflets; tufted seeds of long fibers.

The most common dovetail dove , or medicinal dove ( Vincetoxicum hirundinaria , or Vincetoxicum officinale ), is a poisonous plant, especially for sheep.
