Biological description
Evergreen dioecious trees with alternate, leathery, oval, pointed to the top leaves , 18-25 cm long.
The flowers are orange-yellow, gathered in the half-umbrellas in the axils of the leaves. There are many stamens in male flowers; in women, the ovary is upper, single-knotted.
Fruits are spherical, orange, 6-8 cm in diameter, with a thick soft skin. The pulp contains 8-12 seeds.
Use
The oil obtained from the seeds of some types of hydropathic is used in Eastern medicine as a specific agent against acid-resistant bacteria, including the causative agents of leprosy ( Mycobacterium leprae ), in psoriasis , elephant disease , and skin diseases. The oil strongly irritates the mucous membranes , so they use a mixture of sodium salts of the acids of the oil, called amprol, and ethyl esters of the same acids, called mugrol and halmestrol [3] .
Seeds and oil retard the growth of mycobacterium tuberculosis [3] .
