Strofanthus ( lat. Strophanthus ) - a genus of plants of the Kutrovy family ( Apocynaceae ), growing in tropical Africa , Southeast and South Asia .

Biological Description

Among the representatives of the genus there are woody vines 15-20 m long , shrubs and small trees . Leaves are opposite, elliptical or ovoid in shape with a pointed apex. Flowers collected in a semi-umbrella. Corolla tubular five-petalled. Petals elongated with cord-shaped, often twisted ends.

Usage

The seeds of some species of strophanthus are rich in cardiac glycosides ( g-strophanthin , k-strophanthin and e-strophanthin ). In the seeds of the strophanthus Combe, their total number can reach 8-10%. The preparations of strophanthus surpass all other heart remedies in speed and strength of action.
