St. Petersburg State Institute of Psychology and Social Work

The history of the institute began in April 1992, when, on the initiative of Professor Yuri Petrovich Platonov, a decision was made by the Mayor's Office of St. Petersburg to create a specialized higher educational institution to train specialists in the new specialty “ Social Work ” for Russia. During the first years of its dynamic existence, the Institute was transformed into the St. Petersburg State Institute of Psychology and Social Work (SPbGIPSR), which became the first specialized university of psychological and social profile in the North-West region .

In SPbGIPSR, the humanistic paradigm of education was chosen as a priority, providing opportunities for self-realization of a person in a professional education.

The main areas of research:

• aging population, various forms of youth deviation,
• homelessness and homelessness
• training of practical psychologists for specialized institutions and organizations of the city.
