Novocherkassk State Reclamation Academy

More than 100-year history of the university, includes the following pages of its formation:

• In 1907, the Don Polytechnic Institute (DPI) was opened in Novocherkassk, which included the Department of Engineering and Reclamation , which laid the foundation for the Novocherkassk State Reclamation Academy.
• In 1912, the Engineering and Land Reclamation Faculty was renamed into Agricultural , with a division into engineering and land reclamation and agronomic departments.
• In the fall of 1918, there was a division of the agricultural faculty of DPI into engineering and land reclamation and the faculty of agriculture itself.
• In 1922, the Don Institute of Agriculture and Land Reclamation was created on their basis.
• In 1930, it became known as the North Caucasian Institute of Water Management and Land Reclamation.
• In February 1933, the Novocherkassk Land Reclamation Institute was established on the basis of the North Caucasus Regional Institute of Water Management and Land Reclamation.
• During the Great Patriotic War, the institute was evacuated to Altai.
• In 1997, by Order of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Russian Federation dated April 16, 1997 N 186, the Novocherkassk Engineering and Reclamation Institute was renamed the Novocherkassk State Reclamation Academy.
• In 2013, by Order of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia No. 319 dated 08/28/2013, the Novocherkassk State Reclamation Academy was reorganized in the form of accession to the Don State Agrarian University . ^[one]

The main building of the NGMA is located in the building of the former Don Mariinsky Institute of Noble Maidens (founded in 1853). With him, a house church was built in the name of St. Mary Magdalene. In 1887-1891, the new building of the Don Mariinsky Institute was built by the architect Gedike . The temple was in the central part of the building. Now in the former temple is the audience of the Novocherkassk State Reclamation Academy. ^[2]

Since 1994, the rector of the university is Professor Viktor Nikolaevich Shkura. Over its activities, the university has trained more than 35 thousand specialists. Out of the walls of the educational institution, 26 honored workers of science and technology, 78 honored workers of branches, many heads of land reclamation organizations of the country came out.

For training in 12 specialties, 950 freshmen are admitted annually to NGMA. In total, over 6500 students receive higher education in full-time and part-time forms of training at the Academy. Today Novocherkassk State Reclamation Academy consists of 37 departments, 335 scientific and pedagogical workers, including 47 doctors of sciences, professors, 158 candidates, 35 academicians of the Russian and foreign academies.

The Academy does not have a military department . There is a hostel for students, preparatory courses work.
