Biography

Arlen Viktorovich Blum was born on March 30, 1933 . In 1951, after graduating from secondary school No. 1 in the city of Mednogorsk, Chkalov (now Orenburg ) region, he entered the Leningrad Library Institute , which he graduated in 1955; since August of the same year - bibliographer of the Chelyabinsk Regional Public Library.

From June 16, 1956 to March 1958 he served in the Soviet Army. Since April 29, 1958 - the bibliographer of the library of the Chelyabinsk Economic Council ; Since June 23, 1958 - bibliographer, bibliographer-editor, editor, editor-specialist of the Chelyabinsk Regional Public Library.

From November 1, 1962 to December 1, 1965 at the graduate school of the Leningrad Library Institute in the Department of Bibliography. From December 20, 1965 to November 16, 1966, the senior bibliographer of the State Public Library . In November-December 1966 - senior bibliographer of the Scientific Library. Gorky .

Since December 1966 - assistant, since 1968 - and. about. Associate Professor, since 1970 - Associate Professor, Department of Bibliography, Leningrad State Institute of Culture named after N.K. Krupskaya . From April 1, 1993 to May 25, 2010 - Professor of the Department of General Bibliography and Book Studies of the Institute of Culture - St. Petersburg State Academy of Culture - St. Petersburg University of Culture and Arts .

He gave lecture cycles in Bochum and Oxford .

The dissertation “ Local book and censorship of pre-reform Russia ” (1966), the doctoral dissertation “Fiction as a historical and bibliographic source (Based on Russian literature)” was defended as a report at the St. Petersburg State Institute of Culture (1992).

Passed away on June 4, 2011 in St. Petersburg . He was buried at the Kuzmolovsky cemetery in the Vsevolozhsk district of the Leningrad region [3] .

Memory

Since 2012, at Leningrad State University. A. Pushkin annually hosts an international scientific conference in memory of A. V. Blum, “The History of Books and Censorship in Russia. Blumov readings " [4] .

Scientific activity

The academic degree of the candidate of philological sciences was awarded by a decision of the Council of the Moscow Polygraphic Institute on May 16, 1966; in the academic rank of assistant professor in the bibliography department was approved by the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission on April 3, 1970.

The scientific degree of Doctor of Philology was awarded by decision of the Higher Attestation Commission at the Council of Ministers of the USSR December 25, 1992; the academic title of professor at the Department of General Bibliography and Book Studies was awarded by the decision of the State Committee of the Russian Federation for Higher Education on September 29, 1994.

The main areas of research are the history of provincial books and domestic censorship.
