Biography
Born in the city of Grozny, where his father, Grigory Fedorovich Kantserov, was serving in the military. The family had five children, among the brothers - Pavel Grigoryevich Kantserov , later the St. George Knight and Lieutenant General of the White Army in the Civil War. In the mid-1870s, after the retirement of his father, the family settled in Zhitomir . [1] [2]
He graduated from the St. Petersburg military school, served as an adjutant in the infantry regiment, stationed in Rivne .
In 1896 he retired and took up painting, in 1896 - 1899 he lived in St. Petersburg, as a volunteer he attended classes at the Academy of Arts. Then, for family reasons, he was forced to return to Zhitomir , however, he continued to send works to St. Petersburg exhibitions. In 1910 - 1912 he traveled a lot in Russia and Europe. In 1919 he headed the Zhytomyr Union of Artists, in the 1920s he taught painting at school and college.
He was buried at the Vilsky (Russian) cemetery in Zhitomir.
Creativity
Kantserov is known mainly for his landscape painting, which continues the Kuindzhi tradition.
