Lisardo Montero Flores was born in Ayabacha province on May 27, 1832 into the family of Rear Admiral of the Peruvian Navy. In 1850, at the age of 18, entered the naval service. In 1857 , while serving in the frigate Apurímac , he supported the Vivanko insurgency.

Early career

In 1865, he supported General Mariano Ignacio Prado in an organized coup against President Peseta , after which he was given the rank of lieutenant commander, and also commanded a squadron during the conflict with Spain in 1866 .

In 1871, he was elected to the Senate from the province of Piura , five years later he was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral. After the outbreak of war with Chile, was appointed commander of the forces of the south of the country.

After the defeat in the maritime company went to Lima and was included by President Pierol into the General Staff. He took part in the battles of San Juan and Miraflores on January 13 and 15, 1881. After the occupation of the capital, he was appointed commander of the forces of the north of the country, later he was approved as vice president of the government of Francisco García Calderon .

Presidency

After the arrest and deportation of President Calderón Lizardo Montero, Flores became the interim President of Peru and led peace negotiations. Refusal to cede territories forced him to leave the capital and organize the work of the government in Arequipa . Over the next few years, Peru was seized by anarchy , different governments ruled various parts of the country, the north of the country was controlled by Miguel Iglesias , and the central part was controlled by Andres Avelino Caceres .

In 1883 , after signing a peace treaty with Chile , Lizardo Montero Flores was forced to leave the country, he returned back only in 1890 , after which he again became a senator from Piura .

He died being in retirement in 1905 in Lima .
