The border and maritime patrol school in Imatra is one of two educational institutions that train personnel for the Finnish Border Guard . The second educational institution is located in Espoo .
The educational institution trains personnel also for the army and police of Finland.
The school in its current form was founded in 1997 on the basis of another educational institution for border guards, which has existed since 1926 by merging with the courses of the marine guard, which was merged with the border service in 1947. The school is located in the same complex of buildings where the border guard unit, and near the famous frontier museum.
Border Huntsman Training
The school is preparing reservists who in wartime will serve in the battalions of border rangers . Studying in the battalion of border rangers lasts from recruits who have passed all the tests and have overcome the competition, 362 days, which is the maximum term of military service in the Finnish army. The school also trains officers and non-commissioned officers (similar to midshipmen and ensigns).
