Afanaskovo is a village in the Smolensk region of Russia , in the Safonovsky district . The population is 1 resident ( 2007 ) [1] . It is located in the central part of the region, 14 km north of the city of Safonov , 16 km north of the Belarus highway M1 . 5 km east of the village, the Vadino railway station on the Durovo - Vladimirsky Tupik line . It is part of the Vadinsky rural settlement. The village is located on the territory of the Safonovsky State Zoological Reserve.

History
During the Great Patriotic War, the village was occupied by Nazi troops in September 1941 , liberated in 1943 . In 1941, the headquarters of the 45th cavalry division [2] [3] was located in the village.
