Story

Dmitry Orlov as captain Marinin

The producers of the film claim that the film is based on the facts of the biography of captain-submariner Alexander Marinesko . This is actually not the case. The main character of the film is fictitious by the author (who removed his name from the credits of the picture, which he considers not appropriate for the script he wrote).

The action takes place in 1944 . Captain Marinin, in connection with his "inappropriate" origin, becomes the subject of surveillance by special services. The land major , who does not recognize the difficulties of service and the heroism of submariners , provokes captain-lieutenant Marinin in search of his long-dead brother (who once served with Kolchak ). The captain, who was detained while searching for his brother and accused of not having renounced his family, is arrested by special officers and his fate is a foregone conclusion. But an urgent and responsible order arrives: to destroy large German transport , which should soon leave the port.

Marinin is released under the responsibility of the commander of the submarine brigade ( Vladimir Gostyukhin ). The submarine goes into the sea, finds transport, and, applying military trick , honorably fulfills the task, while receiving serious damage. The base receives a cipher program from the Allies about the possible death of the submarine, almost no one expects it, but the boat comes with a victory ...
