History

Since 1728, factory artisans began to petition for the construction of a church in Polevskoy, in order to set up a normal spiritual life in this small settlement. June 29, 1730, on the day of the celebration of the holy apostles Peter and Paul, Father Superior Philip laid the church in the name of these saints. He reported this event to Metropolitan Anthony of Tobolsk (Stakhovsky) [1] :

... in this Polevsky plant the main commander, as well as melting and mountain ministers and other inhabitants of the yard number, there are 125, and there are no other nearby villages in the vicinity, and this plant is separated by a distance closer than 40 meters from the Mountain Shield . And in the opinion of us, the lowest, for the crowded and distant distance in the Polevsky plant again the church can be. And to this plant all the main and other townsfolk want to build a common and benevolent church by their own dependency, they also want to have a priest and reward them with money and bread, not out of poverty, and they signed with an obligation

Wooden Temple

In 1731, the construction of a wooden church in honor of the supreme apostles Peter and Paul was completed. In the same year, the church was consecrated. From this moment, the Polevskoy plant, according to the generally accepted concept, became a full-fledged village.

With significant forest reserves and in the absence of brick masters, the first temples in the Urals were built of wood and almost on the same model. But Russian wooden architecture had a special style, due to the natural properties of wood. It was difficult to create smooth dome shapes from rectangular beams and boards. Therefore, in wooden churches, including Polevsky Petro-Pavlovsky, instead of a dome, a tent-shaped point was made and trimmed with a smooth hemp. A porch and a porch adjoined to the western part of the temple. The windows were made small, straight and “glassed” with mica , which is why twilight always reigned in the church even during the day.

The belfry of the temple housed five bells. The largest of them weighed 15 pounds and 19 pounds (~ 247.6 kg), and the smallest - 20 pounds (8 kg).

The wooden church served Polevsky parishioners a little over forty years. During this time, the building was dilapidated, and it was decided to build a more durable temple - of stone. The new manager of the Polevsky factories , A.F. Turchaninov, also gave his consent to this.

Stone Temple

In 1772, masons from Ustyug and Solikamsk were invited, since at that time stone temples were erected from all the surrounding settlements only there. However, this construction was haunted by failure:

the church was laid in large sizes, but the soil of the earth turned out to be not entirely reliable soon after its foundation

The unfinished building had to be dismantled, and the construction was suspended. After 14 years, on July 6, 1786, a new church was laid in honor of the apostles Peter and Paul. In 1787, A.F. Turchaninov died. Despite this, Filiciate Stepanovna, the widow of the deceased, continued to finance the construction of the temple. Its construction was completed in 1793 . Hegumen Gideon , rector of the Trinity Rafailov Monastery , consecrated the church on September 11 , 12 and 13, 1793. The old wooden temple was dismantled and thrown in the furnaces of the new stone furnace only in 1800 .

XIX century

By the 30s of the 19th century, there was a need to rebuild the Peter and Paul Church, since it no longer accommodated all parishioners, not only on holidays, but also on weekdays. To study the building, they invited the architect Malakhov , who carefully studied the condition of the foundation of the temple, masonry walls and soil. After all the calculations, a project was drawn up and an estimate of costs worth more than 7,100 rubles in silver.

In the end, the parishioners of the Peter and Paul Cathedral in 1848 raised the necessary funds and covered the temple roof with new iron. In 1857 , after a general decision of the parishioners, after being approved by the diocesan authorities, the merchant Ferapont Zubov was chosen as the church leader. In the church record, it is spoken of as follows:

The Polevskaya church, which was anecdotal and almost valuable at the same time, was not enriched in the years that followed, nor was it donated from anywhere and, according to old-timers, was kept relatively clean and tidy in neglect. The church elder Zubov put an end to all this. During his fifteen-year service (from 1857 to 1871 ), he, so to speak, rebuilt the temple from the side of grandeur and economy, sparing neither his strength nor his own means.

Among his merits is the acquisition of a church house for clergy with a estate of 485 square fathoms.

XX century

In the 1930s, there was a systematic destruction of all religious buildings. Polevsky's temples were closed according to one scheme. The priest was accused of anti-Soviet activity and sent to exile . There are no divine services, which means that the church is not needed. Nevertheless, the Petro-Pavlovsk temple was not so easily given by believers; instead of the exiled priest, they immediately found a new one. And so at least ten times.

In 1941, the parish was finally closed, and all church utensils, including icons, books and clothes, were burned on the banks of the Polevsky Pond. Since this year, workshops of the Red Metalworker factory have been located in the prayer room. In 1965, the building of the old church was converted into a bus station. For several decades, the city lived without a temple or church sacraments .

In 1991, it was decided to return the Peter and Paul Church to believers. On February 15, 1992 , on the day of the celebration of the Presentation of the Lord , the church building was officially handed over to the parish community, and on February 28, the first service was already held in it, dilapidated [2] .
