History
WFMU began broadcasting in April 1958 . The broadcast license was owned by Upsala College . Shortly before the college closed in May 1995 , Auricle Communications bought the license from him and since then the radio station has been completely independent. Auricle Communications itself is a non-profit organization whose board of directors consists of former and current employees of the radio station, as well as WFMU listeners. In August 1998, the radio station moved to Jersey City, New Jersey , in a building purchased with donations from listeners.
Philosophy
WFMU is committed to freeform radio broadcasting. All playlists are compiled by DJs and are not limited to any radio format. Almost 100% of the programs are produced on the radio station itself. [one]
