EDO RAM ( Eng.Extended Data O ut R andom Access Process Emory ) - random access data memory with extended output - an improved memory type FPM RAM (also known as Hyper Page Mode ). Unlike FPM, in the EDO memory, when the CAS signal was set in line, data from the current clock cycle continued to be output, which made it possible to shorten the reading cycle [1] .
Used in computers based on Pentium processors since 1995 .
Memory type EDO was developed and patented by Micron Technology . It used a 32-bit wide data bus ( SIMM connector with 72 contacts), the throughput was up to 320 Mbps (at a frequency of 40 MHz). Supply voltage 5 volts [2] .
In 1994, EDO (40 MHz) replaced the earlier FPM (25 MHz) memory [3] , and then, since about 1996, it was replaced by SDRAM memory operating at frequencies up to 133 MHz [2] [4] .
EDO memory modules had typical sizes of about 16 megabytes [4] .
