Its appearance dates back to the XVIII century. Coins were issued in denominations of 1, ½, ¼ and 1 ⁄ 12 anna from copper and 2 anna from silver . Since 1908, the coin Anna and its fractions were issued from nickel.
After independence, India and Pakistan remained a bargaining chip until their transition to the decimal system: India - until 1957 , Pakistan - until 1961 .
