Football Biography
Club
I came to big football thanks to the Leather Ball children's tournament. He was spotted by Valery Yaremchenko , who invited him to take the Donetsk Shakhtar team double.
Since 1990, he has become a player in the main team. He participated in the Soviet football championship in 1990 and 1991.
In 1995, not finding a common language with the trainers, was leased to Kremenchug " Flint ". Before the start of the second round of the 1995/96 season, the team took 16th place out of 18. After Atelkin, Matveyev and Leonov came from Shakhtar (everyone was rented), in the second half of the season, the team scored only Dynamo Kyiv champions in the second half of the season. , reached the semifinals of the Cup of Ukraine and took the final 9th place.
In the 1995/96 season, Shakhtar took 10th place. Atelkin was returned from lease and became a player of the main team.
According to the results of the 1996/97 season , the club took second place and won the Ukrainian Cup . Moreover, in the final Sergey scored a winning goal.
Participating in matches of the UEFA Cup Cup of the 1997-1998 season, he attracted the attention of breeders of the Italian club Lecce , who won the right to play Serie A in 1997. In 1997 he signed a contract with the club.
At first he constantly left the main squad from the start minutes (he made his debut in a home match against Juventus). Then, having been injured at the beginning of the second round, he no longer got into the squad. Spent 16 matches in Serie A and once hit the gates of Roma , Napoli and Bologna respectively. Lecce Club took 17th place out of 18 and went to Serie B.
According to Italian law, a Serie B club can only declare 2 foreigners from countries outside the European Union. Moreover, one of them must be under 21 years old. Since the team had 7 players from non-EU countries, Atelkin on loan went to the Portuguese club Boavista .
The player did not fit into the team’s game scheme and did not become the main player, only occasionally coming on as a substitute. In 1999, he returned to the location of the Lecce team, which was no longer interested in the player’s services. It got to the point that the player took the car, which relied on the contract, and stopped paying for the apartment. The player turned to the football union for help, who hired lawyers for him. The contract with the team was terminated and Atelkin received the status of a free agent.
Since 1999, Atelkin is again a player of the Shakhtar team. Together with the team he became the champion of Ukraine in 2002 and won the Ukrainian Cup for 2 years in a row. In 2002, the 30-year-old forward moved to Donetsk Metallurg . With the team he won bronze medals of the 2003 Ukrainian Championship .
In 2003, he finished his career as a player. At the suggestion of Rinat Akhmetov, he began to work as a trainer-breeder.
