He was born on December 3, 1834 in the family of the secret adviser Vasily Hristianovich , received his primary education in the school of guards sub-ensigns and cavalry junkers . On production on August 13, 1852, in the first officer's rank, he entered the service of the Life Guards Semenov regiment . In 1854 he entered the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff , whose course in 1856 he graduated in the first category.
In 1857 he was entrusted with compiling a statistical description of the Vitebsk province , then he was head of the 2nd engraving depot, and from 1863 to 1867 he was head of the artificial department of the General Directorate General Directorate. Very valuable geodetic , topographical and engraving works were carried out under his leadership.
From 1867 Christiani held the position of assistant chief of staff of the Orenburg Military District and from 1874 he commanded the Kashira Infantry Regiment . During the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. The Christians at the head of this regiment were assigned to the reserve of the Lower Danube detachment, but in the hostilities took only occasional participation and mostly served to monitor the Danube .
At the end of hostilities, Christiani was promoted to major general (June 6, 1878) and successively commanded the 2nd Brigade of the 7th Reserve Infantry Division, the second brigade of the 31st (from 1879) and 5th (from 1889) g) infantry divisions.
In 1891, Christians with the production of a lieutenant general retired. During his service he was awarded the orders of St.. Stanislav 2nd degree (1864), of sv. Anna 2 nd degree (1866, the imperial crown to this order was granted in 1872), sv. Vladimir 3rd degree (1882).
Compiled by him and published "A complete course of elementary mathematics" (two editions), "Arithmetic and algebra" and "Geometry and trigonometry" were used in the 1870-1880-ies as teaching aids in many educational institutions of the Russian Empire .
N. V. Christiani died on April 30, 1891. He was buried in the village of Rogozna, Dmitrievsky district of the Kursk region, near the church. During the revolution, the tombstone was stolen along with the tombstone of his wife, Catherine Alexandrovna Christiani, the mistress of the Village Rogozna - at that time, due to the lack of building materials, gravestones were used as a foundation for buildings. In 2007, during the renovation of the foundation of one of the houses, the tombstones of Nikolai Vasilyevich and his wife Ekaterina Alexandrovna were found and installed by local residents of the village of Rogozna on a pedestal near the church;
His brothers, Gregory and Vasily , also served in the Russian army. His uncle received great fame: Christian Christianovich Christiani was the head of the Main School of Engineering and a prominent scientist in the field of military engineering.
