Greta always wanted to be an actress, around 1910 she came to Berlin and went to the German Theater . Soon after, she married actor and director Ernst Matrei . They later divorced, and they had only one child left. The first film in which Schroeder starred was Die Insel der Seligen ( 1913 , director Max Reinhardt ). In 1916 she wrote the script for The Phantom of the Opera , the first German film adaptation of the famous novel, and the director was her husband at that time, Ernst Matrei. Her career began to develop in the early 20s of the last century and quickly ended. In the movie, she starred until the 50s, but very little. After the first unsuccessful marriage, she married the director Paul Wegener and lived with him until his death in 1948 .
