Opel Zafira is a compact van manufactured by the European subsidiary of General Motors (GM) since 1999. In different markets, this car is sold under other brands - Vauxhall , Holden and Chevrolet . Introduced in Japan as the Subaru Traviq . The model debuted in 1999 (Zafira A). The second generation appeared in 2005 (in some Zafira Family markets). The third generation is called Zafira Tourer and was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011.

The first generation Zafira is usually referred to as Zafira A, as is customary for Opel cars. The car is based on the GM T platform, as is the 1998 Astra G / B , with which it has a lot in common. The Zafira A was used in the HydroGen3 fuel cell hydrogen car, GM's concept car.
Zafira A was replaced in 2005 by Zafira B in Europe and Japan, but continued to be sold in other markets, with the exception of Australia and New Zealand .

Zafira came with a wide range of engines adapted from Astra. In addition, there was a natural gas version for Europe, as well as a 200 hp turbocharged OPC version (Opel Performance Center). In Brazil, a mixed-fuel version was available.

Zafira B debuted in 2004 in Europe, sales began in 2005. The car got a common platform with the Astra H / C. In Russia, after the launch of the third generation, Zafira B became known as Zafira Family.
In February 2006, Zafira B was launched in Singapore . Since March 2006, this model has been sold in Europe, Singapore, and Japan, replacing the previous generation, as well as the Subaru Traviq. This model was then introduced in April 2006 in Mexico, and later in September 2006 in Chile, under the brand name Chevrolet Zafira.

In Mexico, sales of this model were discontinued after 2006, replaced by a 5-seater Chevrolet HHR . Zafira B was significantly more successful in the UK compared to its predecessor. In 2006, it entered the top ten best-selling new cars, supplanting even Vectra , which for the previous 8 years had held the lead among Opel cars. In 2008, the Zafira Family lineup was restyled.

Engines
The Zafira Family engine range was partially adapted from the previous generation Astra / Zafira, but the old 2.0 and 2.2 turbo diesel engines were replaced with new 1.9 turbo diesel engines using the so-called. Common rail systems developed by FIAT (Multijet).
The Opel Performance Center (OPC) has developed a turbocharged 240 hp 2.0 version of the Zafira B. In addition, there is version 1.6 of the engine for the Zafira B, which runs on natural gas.

The third-generation car, Zafira Tourer [3] , was presented as a concept car in 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show . It was announced that when the Zafira Tourer C goes on sale, the Zafira B will be sold as a smaller and cheaper option, and the larger Zafira Tourer C will compete with the Ford S-Max [4] . The release of the hybrid and / or electric version took place in 2012.
The serial version was presented in September 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show and went on sale at the end of 2011 [5] .
A car version equipped with gas equipment was shown in December 2011. The engine of this model allows the use of two types of fuel: compressed natural gas (CNG) and gasoline . One refueling of liquefied gas is enough for 530 kilometers, and a 14-liter gas tank allows you to get to the next gas refueling station [6] .
In 2009, large-assembly cars for the Russian market began at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad [7] .
At the end of 2015, sales of Opel cars in Russia were discontinued.
In 2016, the car was restyled. There is a new front and rear bumpers and interior in accordance with the Opel Astra K. [eight]
In June 2018, the production of right-hand drive versions of the model under the Vauxhall brand for the UK market was discontinued [9] . The release of other versions continues, but the fate of the future model remains in question.
