Nogai battalion

The Nogai sabotage battalion (or “Nogai Jamaat” ) is a Wahhabi terrorist structural unit of the Caucasian Front of the Nogai Steppe Wilayat ( Stavropol Territory ) of the Caucasus Emirate .

In October 2007, a leading expert at the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Akhmet Yarlykapov, in an interview with the " Caucasian Knot " expressed the opinion that the "Nogai battalion in the Stavropol Territory does not exist, and the very use of the concept of" Nogai battalion "creates tension and plays into the hands of the separatists ... When alone the network cell is liquidated, part of it remains. It is very difficult to eliminate the entire network. This is just what you need to understand. There is no battalion, but there is a network structure that covers the entire North Caucasus . And one cannot speak of a certain leadership in this situation, because the organization itself, to which the gangster underground has come, does not imply the presence of a one-man boss. ” [1]

However, in 2011, the Nogai Jamaat was again remembered in connection with the terrorist attack at Domodedovo Airport [2] . Before that, the activities of the Nogai battalion noticeably intensified: on August 17, 2010 they launched an explosion in Pyatigorsk , on September 30 they tried to fire a powerful explosive device in Stavropol, and on December 31 they carried out an explosion in the Kuzminsky forest park of Moscow [3] . No more active action was taken.

February 2, 2011 Sergey Arutyunov, head of the Caucasus Peoples Department of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, expressed the opinion that even if some battalion exists, there are hardly more than 20 people in it [4] .
