Life and creativity
E. Vedova began his creative activity in 1930 as a student of a photographer and restorer, then from 1936 to 1943 he worked in Rome , Florence and Venice . In the early 50s of the XX century , when abstract art under the slogan “Abstraction as a world language” became more and more popular among young people, E. Vedova became one of the leading artists - abstract artists of Italy. In general, being a lone artist, in 1952-1953 the master participates in the activities of the artistic group "Grupo del Otto".
In 1947, E. Vedova took part in the Venice Biennale for the first time, and in 1960 he was awarded the Grand Prix there. He was a regular participant of exhibitions of German abstract artists of document 1-3 in Kassel ( 1955 , 1959 , 1964 ). Then, after a long break - in the "document 7", in 1982 .
He died in his native Venice, buried on the island of San Michele [1] .
Style
Painting E. Vedova is characterized by black and white composition. Here his work has in common with the works of Franz Klein . Black and white literally fight each other on the master's canvases, accompanied by some other colors, among which red and blue are preferred. Paint overlay sharp, strong strokes. On the surface of the paintings there is no clear image, no directions or center. The painting of the artist shows the spontaneity, contradictions and openness of the process of creativity.
E. Vedova understood his creative work both as artistic and political art, even if there was no concrete realistic or illustrative image in him. Many of his works, often created in the form of abstract cycles of paintings, carried political names, such as the large series of paintings painted on both sides on wooden boards in 1964, called the Berlin Diary of the Absurd. This cycle pointed to the tragedy of a divided, torn city.
