The Pogues, demonstrating (according to Allmusic ), "that the spirit of punk rock can live in Irish folk music" (and using whistle , banjo , accordion , mandolin - instruments associated with traditional Celtic folklore), became "one of the most radical groups of the mid-80s " [2] .

Group History
The Pogues was founded in 1982 in the Kings Cross district of London [3] . The original name of the group “pogue mahone” is the Anglicization of the Irish expression póg mo thóin , which translates: “kiss my ass” [4] .
In 1991, McGowan resigned due to health problems; the role of the frontman took over - first Joe Strummer , then Spider Stacey, but in 1996 the group finally broke up.
In 2001, a reunion took place, after which The Pogues from time to time continue to gather for individual concerts. In 2005, the band re-released their 1987 classic track “Fairytale of New York” and with Christmas eve 2005 rose with it to 4th place in Britain [1] . In December 2015, Shane McGowan announced that The Pogues are no longer active and ceased to exist, having played their last concerts in Ireland and the United Kingdom in 2013. The reason for the collapse of Shane called the tensions between musicians during the touring tours, developing into outright hatred of each other [5] .
