Notes
Their most significant operation was the successful hostage-taking of Peter Lorenz in 1975. Lorenz was a candidate from the Christian Democratic Union of Germany for the post of ruling burgomaster of West Berlin. At the request of the kidnappers, the German government released five prisoners: Rolf Pohl, Verena Becker, Ingrid Zipmann, Rolf Heisler and Gabriel Kröcher-Tiedemann, who after their release flew to South Yemen. A member of the RAF, Horst Mahler , whose release was also on the list of demands, chose to remain in prison. On the same day, the abductors released Peter Lorenz.
